Accessible PDFs from

LaTeX & Overleaf

The LaTeX tagged-PDF project makes accessible output possible. It needs a current toolchain and a few lines of setup.

Set up the document

  • Add \DocumentMetadata{tagging=on, lang=en-US, pdfstandard=ua-2} before \documentclass.
  • Use semantic structure: sectioning commands, real list environments, captions, and cross-references.
  • Check that the packages you load are compatible with tagging.

Compile on Overleaf

  1. Open Menu › Settings › Compiler and select LuaLaTeX with TeX Live 2025.
  2. Recompile the project.
  3. Download the PDF and verify the tags — or upload it to the PDF checker below.

Then verify the result

Upload the exported PDF to our Tagged PDF Builder for an instant accessibility preflight — tags, alt text, and structure — and fix anything it flags.
